“Have you gotten taller?”

Hi, my name is Chuck. I first signed up for Man Flow Yoga early in the pandemic, early in 2020. The gyms were closed. I knew I needed some sort of an exercise solution because I wasn’t able to really do much besides go for walks in the neighborhood, and it sounded kind of interesting. I had taken yoga classes occasionally years and years ago, and I never liked them. I was always the only man in the class.
I didn’t really know what I was doing. I have to be watching the instructor and listening. I didn’t know the names of any of the poses, so I kind of gave up on it. And this sounded really interesting because it was a way to learn about what I was supposed to do, in addition to doing it in the privacy of my own home, when I didn’t have to worry about being someplace at a certain time, and I could just do it at a time that was convenient for me.
I also had a few aches and pains that had started to develop over the years that I had physical therapy for occasionally, and I knew I needed something that I could do regularly that would allow me to treat those, and yoga seemed like a good possibility for that. Since I’ve been with Man Flow Yoga, I’ve noticed that I just generally feel more fit than I did before. My biggest problem before doing this was that I could never really be totally consistent with any type of exercise routine.
I might get to the gym a couple times a week, but it was never at the same time of day or for the same duration, and I always felt like I was rushing through what I was trying to get done, or it’d get boring, so I really wasn’t focusing on it. And with the ability to do these short routines at home, in my own space, at a schedule that works for me, I’ve actually been able to be consistent with an exercise routine for over two years, which has been really exciting.
I’ve definitely seen improvements. I feel stronger. I’m able to handle the aches and pains that I feel now because I know how to treat them with the right stretches, the right moves. My favorite is the pigeon stretch. And I also find that I feel like I carry myself better. In fact, somebody recently said, “Have you gotten taller?” And I said, “No.” I realize it’s probably my posture that’s gotten better.
So I really do feel like this has been a great solution for me personally, and I think a lot of other guys can also benefit from it.

“I didn’t realize how much yoga would change me—not just my body, but my mindset.”

I’ve been doing Man Flow Yoga for about four and a half years. How I started yoga was I had back issues, so degenerative discs. Looked up yoga for back, and that’s how I came across Man Flow Yoga. I went to a few yoga classes. I didn’t like when it started chanting or doing those types of things, or when I was just laying down, and it seemed relaxing, but I really wanted to focus on the physical part of it.
What I didn’t realize is how it helped me be a better person. I was happier, just having that physical activity without a lot of events. I didn’t have to drive to the gym. I could just wake up. My mat was there. I could just get on the mat and just start exercising, and that would get my mental state into a good space.

“I couldn’t trust my hip again… until I found Man Flow Yoga.”

I’m Sam, I’m 49, and I’m from Washington, DC. I’ve been doing Man Flow Yoga for two years now. I started doing it after hip reconstruction surgery. I went through recovery and rehab, and even after a year and a half, I was still not feeling 100%. Still sort of feeling tight and uncertain, and I could not trust the hip to do the activities that I wanted to do. I mean, the whole reason that I had the surgery.
So increasing mobility through yoga, that seemed like a good way to try to get back to where I wanted to be. And then Dean’s story of finding yoga as a Division I athlete, and targeting Man Flow Yoga for men really resonated with me

I joined Man Flow Yoga primarily out of curiosity. I had just hit 56, and I knew that I needed a fitness solution in my life because I had experienced the physical and the mental decline of both of my parents. I knew that if I did not make some changes and make some changes soon, that I could end up in similar situations as they were. Pop was a very strong man, but he ended up where he could not walk and could not take care of himself before he passed away.
And my mom had Alzheimer’s dementia, and she just wasted away, and I did not want that for my future. My problem that I had in starting a physical fitness routine is that I had zero experience in physical fitness. I was always a book nerd. But because of the pandemic, Dean had advertised an introductory plan for Man Flow Yoga, which was six weeks of Strength Foundations Challenge, and I think it was $10 for the six weeks or something.
It’s very minuscule amount. So after watching the video and reading some of his reviews, I determined that I had little to lose and potentially a lot to gain. The first thing that I noticed were the results were very quick in coming. I started feeling the first week that I could tell a difference. My posture was better. I felt that I was walking taller and stronger. My balance and mental clarity improved.
My sleeping habits improved, body awareness and attitude, self-confidence, you name it. My whole life improved because of Man Flow Yoga. Probably the biggest life change for me after starting Man Flow is that I had to stop seeing my chiropractor as often as I once did. Before Man Flow, I was visiting him sometimes once a week just to keep things together and eliminate a lot of pain that I had from the way I would sit at a desk or I held myself.
I had done bad posture for 50-some years. But as I progressed through Man Flow Yoga, I stopped seeing my chiropractor nearly as often. I might see him once every couple of months now, sometimes not even that frequently. And he’s regularly made a comment about how well I’ve been moving since I started doing the Man Flow Yoga. He doesn’t have to work as hard now to get things back into alignment

The biggest reason why I joined Man Flow Yoga was to improve flexibility, which was terrible before I joined. Seeing other people my age either having lost motivation, thinking they really can’t undertake an exercise regimen, or thinking they’re too old just to be able to get back in the game. On the Man Flow Yoga side, it’s like everything is just packaged for you. If you need something to follow along with, take a chance on it because the app is very well-designed.
It has a curated appearance to it, where you can press a button like the old jukeboxes and bring up the type of session that you really want based on any kind of factor, whether it’s time, whether it’s intensity, whether it’s anything else. No equipment is needed. Look, you can just start really easy because that’s what I did.

“I was thinking about back surgery… then I found this.”

So at the end of 2020, it was the pandemic and all, and I was experiencing some pretty bad back pain. And I was actually thinking about surgery or all kinds of different things to help with my back. And I got a promo for the beginning of the year, 20-day challenge, I think it was, ad, and I thought, “Well, why not give that a shot?” And I did, and the first thing that I did was there was something about back mobility and hips and all, and it actually immediately made me feel better.
I have since incorporated Man Flow Yoga and different pieces of it into my regular workout schedule, much to my delight. I have recommended Man Flow Yoga to countless numbers of people. As far as I’m concerned, it’s one of the best things I’ve found during the pandemic. It really did make a difference for me.

“Well, I had some low back problems, and before the pandemic, I was doing some Pilates. I was just looking on the internet for some exercises to do at home when I came across Tim’s videos on YouTube. And I started watching the videos, and I felt I could do yoga myself. Everything was very well explained. And after that, I bought one of his books, and I signed up with Mind Body Yoga, and I felt very happy, and all my lower back problems disappeared, and I felt stronger.
I gained some muscle as well, and for a guy over his 50s, this was quite important. I feel like I will be doing this for a very long time”

"150 pounds down… but this didn’t happen overnight!"

So since joining Man Flow Yoga about a year ago, I no longer have the shoulder pain that I had. I can throw a football. I no longer get out of a chair and am in pain. Can pick up my daughter’s toys without having twinges. I just feel, flexibility-wise and strength-wise, I feel great all over. In addition to just the exercises, what Man Flow Yoga really has done is the community, and signing up for these challenges and encouraging each other.
I just finished a 12-week group coaching with Coach Josh, and now I’m really into weightlifting and use the yoga to help supplement that. I also like that I go for a run, I’m feeling sore, I just will go search post-run workout, and something pops up at all different times, depending on how much time I have. There’s just something for everything you need, for every pain I may be feeling or every workout I may have done or something I may be doing later.
I feel more confident when I’m with my wife and my shirt’s off. I know that’s a little corny, but that’s the truth. Before joining Man Flow Yoga, I had lost 75 pounds over the previous years, but I’d started gaining it back. Well, now I’ve lost another 75 pounds, and I’m 150 pounds down total. I am a better man for my wife, a better father to my daughter, and a better person for myself. It’s been fantastic, and I’ve got the community and Man Flow Yoga to thank for that.

"By the end of the six weeks of that program, I felt better. I noticed that my body was moving better."

My primary reason for joining Man Flow Yoga was a desire to get in better shape, to keep up with my kids, who were, at that time, six and nine. But it was also to make sure that I was doing my best that I could to help take care of my own body. I was having stupid injuries. You bend down to pick up a box at IKEA or something, and you’re twisting, and all of a sudden, your back is just sore, thrown out.
I first found Man Flow Yoga through the Strength Foundations Challenge ad in January, I think, of 2024 on Facebook. And by the end of the six weeks of that program, I felt better. I noticed that my body was moving better. My joints were less achy. I had more energy, and I was sold. I said, “I’ve got to join this. I’ve got to keep on.” In traveling with my family on long road trips, it used to be I’d get somewhere, and I’d just be totally exhausted, depleted, and sore for days.
Now, I’m able to go on these trips. I’m able to walk the 20,000 steps when we go to an amusement park. I’m able to really be present in ways that I wasn’t able to be before. My message to friends and family about Man Flow Yoga is give it a shot. Commit to the change, be consistent, and interact with the community. So control your breath, control your body, and hit the mat.
